内容提要：

This lecture will examine the impact of foreign capital flows on China’s stock market, with a particular focus on a novel channel—how herding behavior among retail investors generates significant market externalities. We will show that the mandatory daily disclosure of foreign institutional holdings prompts domestic investors to imitate these trades, leading to persistent mispricing. By employing inflow predictability tests and path analysis decomposition, our research demonstrates that the price impact driven by retail herding is actually far greater than the direct informational content conveyed by the foreign capital itself. Furthermore, we will report that the inflated valuations resulting from retail herding lead to corporate overinvestment and a significant reduction in investment efficiency. Finally, this study aims to highlight that, in markets dominated by noise traders, position disclosure rules may have unintended negative consequences, inadvertently undermining both market stability and the efficiency of capital allocation.
